Personal Care Attendant, PACE

Job Roles

  • Provide care in a manner which ensures participant satisfaction and retention, and is in compliance with all regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Assist with instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs) across care settings.
  • Provide personal care to include bathing, dressing, toileting, oral and denture care, hair and skin, shaving, nail trimming, etc.
  • Provide physical assistance and attendant care across care settings.
  • Help participant's to move, turn, get in and out of bed, chair or wheelchair, and ambulate with or without assistive devices.
  • Observe and report to immediate supervisor any changes in participant's physical or mental status; record such observations on appropriate records.
  • Help maintain order and cleanliness of the multi-purpose PACE Center. Assist with dining area set-up and distribution of meals and snacks as assigned.
  • Assist with multi-purpose PACE Center activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

  • High School diploma or equivalent GED Certificate required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the skills, knowledge and ability to perform the essential job duties, and which meets any required state or federal certification requirements.
  • Current American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED Certification required within 90 days of employment.
  • DRIVING IS AN ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & DRIVES COMPANY VEHICLE Requires an active California driver's license for the class required for operation of assigned vehicle; DRIVER REQUIREMENTS: Age 21; Licensed for a minimum of 3 years; No violations and/or accidents within 3 years; No vehicle related suspensions/reinstatements; No DUI, reckless or felony Driving within 7 years.
  • Ability and means to travel as needed in a timely manner within San Diego County, to locations that may have limited access to public transportation; proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle used is required.

Experience/Specialized skills (including Language)

  • Some experience as a homemaker, personal care aide, home health aide or nursing assistant in working with the older adult population is desirable.
  • Able to work effectively with culturally, economically and educationally diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills in dealing with a wide range of staff and PACE participants' essential forms of living.
  • Able to perform a wide range of chores in caring for the older adult population.
  • Able to assist with personal care in homes and/or at health-related facilities to include wheelchair and ambulatory transfer between home and various transportation modes.
  • Able to handle difficult situations in a professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to get along well with others and gain cooperation.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
