Candidates hired into this position will work onsite in San Diego, CA (mostly in Hillcrest but also in La Jolla).
The University of California San Diego (UCSD) Health System is actively recruiting for a Clinical Ethicist to join its evolving Clinical Ethics Program, which started 16 years ago. This position will report to the Ethics Program Manager and join a rotation of on-call Clinical Ethicists in conducting clinical ethics consultations across the enterprise. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to facilitate and expand existing clinical ethics rounds across the institution, drive ethics education and policy development, and have protected time to devote to ethics quality improvement, research, and scholarship. Additional responsibilities for this role include:
- Rotates on- and off-call for the Ethics Consult Service, which provides 24 hour/365 clinical ethics consultation for patients, families, and clinical staff
- Plans, delivers and evaluates ethics education for health care providers, residents, students and community
- Develops, implements, and participates in ethics rounds for key clinical services
- Analyzes and improves ethics consultation methods where needed - coordinates and leads ethics relevant quality improvement initiatives and research projects
- Serves as a member and expert advisor to the UCSD Health Ethics Committee
- Develops, reviews and revises system policies and guidelines requiring ethical guidance or oversight
- Serves as a liaison and provides ethical guidance to relevant committees and high priority initiatives as needed
- Conducts collaborative and independent ethics scholarship with dissemination of work through publication and presentations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEleven (11) years of related clinical ethics and clinical ethics consultation experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus seven (7) years of related clinical ethics and clinical ethics consultation experience/training.
Experience and proven success in ethics and compliance profession, theories and systems of internal control, and professional compliance and investigations standards.
Master's degree in a field related to bioethics preferred.
Terminal degree (e.g., PhD, JD, MD) in a field related to bioethics highly preferred.
Successful completion of a fellowship in clinical ethics highly preferred.
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $116,000 - $224,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $55.56 - $107.38
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
