About the Department

University Temporary Services (UTS) is the in-house temporary staffing service for North Carolina State University. UTS provides cost-effective, qualified temporary personnel in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout campus.

UTS has been pleased to be part of NC State’s campus community since October 1980. In July 2010, NC State partnered with UNC-Chapel Hill to create another UTS location to serve the Carolina campus community. We now have UTS personnel dedicated to each location and exclusively serving each university.

Essential Job Duties

This is an internal posting for current NC State permanent and temporary employees.

The University Temporary Services Staffing Specialist provides professional-level recruitment and search consultation to hiring administrators and departments for temporary opportunities on the campuses of NC State University and UNC-Chapel Hill. Consultation revolves around best practices, processes, policies, and regulations associated with the recruitment and selection for professional temporary positions across campus. The Staffing Specialist actively recruits, assesses, and recommends candidates for temporary vacancies.

The Specialist provides accurate and thorough consultation and coordinates recruitment efforts as well as logistics of the screening, interviewing, consideration, and selection process. They provide guidance and ensure consistent and efficient administration of relevant policies and procedures which includes assistance with employment offers and salary determination.

The position requires independent and creative decision-making, judgment, and daily problem solving. The incumbent must maintain current knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, best practices, and private sector trends as they relate to the University.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively recruit and assess talent for a wide variety of occupations, skills, and experience levels.
  • Excellent customer service skills. Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Great organizational skills and demonstrated understanding of current and emerging talent acquisition practices.
  • Technical aptitude to utilize, maximize, and adapt to changes in technology.
