Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Robert H. Smith School of Business consists of over 1000+ active employees including faculty, exempt, non-exempt staff, and student employees. Consult with various University Human Resources departments to include Payroll, Employment, Benefits, PHR and Academic Affairs. Under the direction of the Strategic Director of Human Resources and Associate Director of HR, the HR General Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of the HR team. The position will handle myriad transactional responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform day-to-day payroll functions for the college to include processing PHR appointments for academic and non-academic units. Assist employees and monitor all walk-in HR and Payroll requests.
  • Process payroll entries for various staff and students into the human resources system on a bi-weekly basis and conform with established policies and procedures.
  • Respond to routine inquiries from faculty, staff and students about on-boarding, payroll and human resources related matters.
  • Assist with planning organizational events.
  • Responsible for internet and intranet updates.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, write and follow instructions.
  • Some positions may require demonstration of specific attributes or abilities to perform assigned work.

Other:
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.

  • High School Diploma/GED or Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years of administrative experience and at least one year of Human Resources responsibilities.
  • Microsoft Excel experience required and working in spreadsheets and databases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and must possess the ability to interact with a diverse public in a professional, sensitive, and service oriented fashion.
  • Excellent team contributor; energetic self-starter, highly professional and positive demeanor; attention to detail is critical.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality is essential.
  • Experience using payroll systems.
  • Experience in collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends for reports.
