Job Summary and Responsibilities/Duties

Must be available for occasional weekend activities including recruitment and trainings.

College Saving Programs (MCSP) program, including coordinating events that advance the College’s commitment to creating and sustaining a diverse and inclusive environment, physically and virtually, with particular attention to the needs of womxn-identifying students within the Transitions, Transiciones program at MHCC. Develops and administers programs, and directs student supports that contribute to the retention and success of students in the program. Works collaboratively with programs faculty, staff, and mentors to design, deliver, and evaluate the program.

Essential Duties


  • Coordinates the overall design, delivery, and evaluation of the Transitions, Transiciones programs with a focus on coalition building, identity, culture, retention, and concerns of the students and student identities.
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates the programs that enrich the academic experience, promote identity exploration, and enhance the leadership skills of students.
  • Oversees the assessment and reporting of the effectiveness of programs and services, student academic progress and persistence, and campus climate.
  • Coordinates the outreach, recruitment, orientation, and enrollment of students into the Transiciones and Transitions programs.
  • Partners with program faculty to align course outcomes with program outcomes to inform and pursue relevant out-of-class activities, learning experiences, and retention strategies for Transitions and Transiciones students.
  • Oversees the peer-mentorship program. Defines the peer mentor role(s), and recruits, hires, trains, places, supervises, and evaluates program peer mentors.
  • Mentors students, assists them in setting goals, and provides guidance to help them achieve educational and economic success.
  • Connects students to the broader services and resources as needed.
  • Collaborates with affiliated centers, services, and programs at the College to design and implement events, activities, and/or campus-wide campaigns that support the needs of womxn-identifying students and individuals within the MHCC community.
  • Establishes and maintains relevant internal and external partnerships for resource and service-referrals that meet the needs of Transitions and Transiciones students such as childcare services, transportation information, clothing donations, crisis intervention, academic learning supports, professional networking opportunities, and connections to community organizations.
  • Supports and advances internal department goals and ongoing program assessments. Assists with the review and evaluation of the program to ensure the college meet its strategic goals.
  • Provides customer service, in person, electronically, and over the phone, by providing general guidance, information and assistance. Assists in resolving problems, either by defusing the situation or by referring to the most appropriate person.
  • Processes registration of program participants. Determines eligibility, placement, program suitability and referrals as necessary of prospective participants, adhering to contract guidelines as well as federal and state mandated procedures, regulations and standards. Prepares and processes enrollment, registration, and/or schedule revision forms and schedules orientations.
  • Collaborates on the planning, delivery, and tracking of outreach programming, internal procedures, and internal awareness campaigns involving the MCSP. Provides culturally-appropriate outreach to potential MCSP participants. Updates information on department/program webpages. Posts web events. Creates and maintains program paperwork, as needed. Trains and keeps staff up-to-date on new and ongoing policies and procedures related to the MCSP. Processes participant intake information.
  • Organizes and maintains active and past MCSP participant files, program files, and shared drives. Compiles, runs, and organizes monthly reports on active MCSP participant data. Acts as a liaison between department and the Analytics and Institutional Research (AIR) Office in building reports and gathering data. Serves as a point of contact for the Community and Shelter Assistance Corp. of Oregon (CASA of Oregon) when seeking MCSP participant data.
  • Assists in the fundraising and advocacy of MCSP in partnership with Transitions/Transiciones staff and CASA of Oregon representative(s).
  • Oversees coordination of the Transitions program, which supports the education and development of all students with particular attention to the needs of womxn-identifying students within both programs at the college. Develops and implements plans for the outreach, recruitment

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in student development, psychology, social work, social science, counseling or other related field.

Experience:


  • Minimum (2) years of professional experience in student service-oriented environment coordinating student program or support services designed to address the struggles, triumphs, and realities for a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated experience serving students across a diverse spectrum of backgrounds
  • Bilingual oral and written skills with fluency Spanish and in English or other language that meets community needs.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Desired Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in student development, psychology, social work, social science, counseling or other related field.

Working Conditions and Important Information

 

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a normal office environment working with a variety of people. Work environment is often noisy and crowded with students and staff. Occasional strain to the eyes while working with a computer terminal. Occasional evening or weekend hours to accommodate special activities or events related to the position. Expect disruptions in work flow.

Salary:
Initial salary placement will be based on years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the applicable Handbook or Collective Bargaining Agreement. Please include all relevant full and part-time experience in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement. Hired employees will not have an opportunity to update past experience or appeal initial placement after the time of hire.
