DESCRIPTION

We have an exciting opportunity for a Labor Relations Analyst to work in an extremely high volume labor relations unit! Experienced administrative professionals, legal secretaries, paralegals and non-licensed JDs are encouraged to apply. Individuals with experience in general HR principles, employee relations, compensation, recruitment and/or negotiation & labor bargaining are also encouraged to apply.

Under the direction of the Director, Health Labor Relations, this position performs a variety of job functions to assist the Labor Relations (LR) team and facilitate union relations for the UC San Diego Health enterprise (Health System, Health Sciences, Student Health & Well-Being). This position is responsible for all phone and document intake and acknowledgment of communications received from multiple unions and legal/administrative agencies, as well as scheduling required meetings that are driven by union contract deadlines. This position will be expected to independently answer low-complexity questions regarding union contractual obligations as well as coordinate union business leaves for multiple employee-representatives; with increasing responsibilities as labor relations experience in a complex academic health environment is gained.

As experience is gained, this position is also responsible for processing low-complexity union grievances and data collection/coordination for Requests for Information (RFIs). You will also be responsible for preparing reports independently and assisting other Labor Relations team members as needed. Growth in this position is possible with progression from Labor Representative 1 through 3 (for non-attorneys) and LR 4 through 5 for licensed attorneys and/or individuals with 10+ years of experience in labor relations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.

  • To be considered at the Labor Relations Representative 3 level you must have seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.

  • Demonstrated experience in a Human Resource related function or similar/related field. Experience in a Labor Relations or Employee Relations role or similar function preferred.

  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience and competency with computer technologies and a variety of software including system and networking software, e-mail and a variety of web-based programs and browsers, with the willingness and ability to update and increase skills as needed to meet the goals of the unit.

  • Excellent customer service skills, ability to correctly interact with/respond to challenging personalities and situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize workload, manage special projects and determine responsibilities.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in addressing complex problems where the consequence of error is relatively high.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's/JD Degree, or labor certification from recognized professional organization.

  • Experience with administering/interpreting union contracts and/or working in a unionized workplace.

  • Experience with UC staff personnel policies/procedures and union contracts.

  • Experience using a case management system to organize and track your workload.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $61,800 - $108,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $29.60 - $51.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
