(CNM) Director, UCSD Nurse-Midwifery Service - 128014

DESCRIPTION

The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 70 faculty and clinical fellows. The department is composed of 7 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, Complex Family Planning, and Urogynecologic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Advanced Practice Director in the Department of OB/GYN and Reproductive Sciences, Midwifery Program at UC San Diego. Provides leadership over the Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) that work in the Comprehensive Women's Health Program, as well as performing direct patient care.

Individual will work with Department Faculty and Business Office as well as Health System leadership. The Advanced Practice Manager is expected to develop and foster improvements of Nurse Midwifery care throughout the Health System. This individual will be the leader of the Nurse-Midwifery service with the responsibility for quality of patient care, education and customer satisfaction. These duties include:

Ongoing development, revision and implementation of CNM Best Practices. This includes review and revision of CNM practice guidelines as necessary. Staff recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, professional development and performance evaluations. Ensuring staffing of the outpatient and inpatient services, managing absences / time off requests as well as managing human resource issues. Assuring appropriate CNM and ancillary staffing of community clinics that Health System has contracts for CNM services.

Oversee quality of care, including reviewing and improving quality metrics as identified by Health System and responding to patient complaints. Provide CNM full scope (inpatient and outpatient) patient care.

Work collegially in a collaborative care model consulting physicians and specialists. Work within a family-centered and culturally sensitive mother-baby friendly philosophy of care. Participate in clinical education of medical students, residents, and other healthcare learners. Function as a liaison with Health System personnel including case management, financial counselors and social workers.

Participate in community outreach activities and other duties as assigned. Promote clinical investigation and support scholarly activities. A highly successful candidate will have an interest in research, quality initiatives and publishing research related to midwifery.

Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and organizational goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in professional area of study.

  • Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) license, Furnishing License, and DEA license.

  • NRP and BLS/CPR certifications at time of hire with commitment to get OB ART within 6 months of hire date.

  • Five-ten (5-10) years of work experience as a licensed Certified Nurse Midwife.

  • Advanced experience in clinical specialty supervising APPs. Advanced knowledge of legislative issues affecting advanced practice providers. Ability to organize operations and implement initiatives.

  • Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services.

  • Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.

  • Strong knowledge of human resources practices and policies in a represented provider environment. Ability to direct, organize, motivate and mentor staff. Strong operational management skills.

  • Advanced knowledge of software and specialized applications used by advanced practice providers. Ability to analyze and interpret data, develop reports and action plans.

  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to convey complex clinical information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and national regulatory requirements.

  • Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making.

  • Experience and skill in performing pregnancy assessment and well woman medical examination, identifying medical problems and formulate appropriate plan of action. Must be able to see patients independently.

  • Identifies patient/family problems or learning barriers including physical, cognitive, environmental, language/cultural, financial, psychosocial, and spiritual and provides appropriate referral as necessary to function as part of a team.

  • Experience interacting positively, constructively, and effectively with staff, physicians, patients and the general public.

  • Demonstrated excellent assessment skills and ability to make clinically sound decisions in a fast paced environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience attending births.

  • Academic Medical Center experience.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Position involves clinical hours which may include outpatient and inpatient sites.

  • Must be eligible in health plan enrollment if engaged in clinical practice.

  • Must be able to obtain UCSD Medical Staff privileges and maintain during employment.

  • Must be willing to travel to various locations.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $158,300 - $319,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $75.81 - $153.21

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
