DESCRIPTION

Lifesharing is a federally designated nonprofit Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) within UC San Diego Health System that coordinates organ and tissue donation in San Diego and Imperial Counties. The Department works closely with hospitals and donor families to give hope to the more than 100,000 people on the transplant waiting list. Lifesharing staff work to find the best possible match for each organ and to maximize the gift of donated organs and tissues for transplant and research.

Director of Organ Clinical Operations reports directly to the Executive Director of the OPO, and has the responsibility for assessing and directing all clinical operations of the Lifesharing Organ team. This includes the day to day operations of all services directly related to the management of organ donor referrals, clinical management and recovery of organ donors, and post-case follow-up. Ensures all scheduled and call shifts are covered for staff responsible for day-to-day clinical operations. Directly or indirectly supervises CNI, CNII, CNIII, HLTI, HLT II, HLT III, Clinical Supervisors and others. The Director of Organ Clinical Operations will provide oversite and support to the supervisors and managers of the clinical teams to ensure high performance in all aspects of their roles. On call responsibilities to include 24-hour coverage as Administrator on call.

The Director must simultaneously possess advanced knowledge of OPO operations at the local, national and international levels, in addition to expert level personnel management skills, strategic planning expertise, fiscal management and the knowledge and poise needed to navigate all the systems within UC San Diego Health, CMS, TJC, and the OPTN.

The Director is responsible for creating, prioritizing and executing strategic planning efforts in addition to business development activities. Must possess the ability to apply advanced SWOT analyses and Lean Six Sigma methodologies to to all processes of the OPO clinical operations and their impact on the UC San Diego Health System. This role requires the management of collaboration amongst managers and quality analysts.

In conjunction with the Executive Director, the Director of Organ Clinical Operations collaborates with the Director of Development, Director of Family Services and the Organ and Tissue Quality Directors in the department, as well as external stakeholders and internal UC San Diego Health stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance with the OPTN, CMS and other regulatory bodies is maintained and growth is sustained. The Director of Organ Clinical Operations networks with all these stakeholders to evaluate for, and provide recommendations related to strategic opportunities to facilitate clinical, regulatory and financial growth.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and seven or more years of relevant experience in organ procurement operations; or equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organ donation and industry specific operational processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments.
  • Management experience in a complex health care organization. Demonstrated human resources knowledge and the ability to manage, motivate and mentor team members.
  • Knowledge of health care delivery models, program planning and implementation.
  • Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently.
  • Demonstrated financial management skills, including budget management, financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain professional relationships, influence and persuade.
  • Ability to build and maintain a climate of trust and collaboration.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field of study
  • CPTC certification
  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (or higher)
  • Service on national committees in the field such as OPTN, AOPO, NATCO, etc.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $124,400 - $243,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $59.58 - $116.67

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
